Study of Mindset
What is Mindsetology?
Mindsetology in my own terms would be the study of the set of beliefs, mental attitudes and ways which affect how people think, feel and behave.
A mindset is a set of beliefs that govern the way you act feel and behave, in other words the way you think. Mindsets develop from a young age and most of our beliefs are rooted in childhood experiences.
There are many factors that contribute to forming a mindset. These include:
Culture is the ideas, customs, traditions and social behavior of a particular people, tribe, nation or society. These are generally instilled in the members from a young age and they play a crucial role in forming mindsets. The world is divided into tribes and clans at a base level. And they all have their traditions and practices which shape their attitudes and ways of thinking.
Religion is defined as a particular system of faith or worship or a pursuit or interest followed with great devotion. Most religions are based on doctrines that require their followers to belief and practice. These are also generally taught from a young age. However, there are cases where an individual decides to join a particular religion. Therefore, they take on the mindset of that particular faith.
There are various ways in which education is defined. This ranges from academic, religious or secular among others. In a nutshell education is training of an individual through experiences. This is generally accomplished through parents, schools, religions and observation. All this forms forms of education play a major role in shaping and defining a Mindset.
Your Network is your Net worth: Whoever you associate with has an impact on the way you value yourself or beliefs. You are the sum of the people that you surround yourself with: You generally become and think like the top 5 people that are in your inner circle, or those you hang around or bond with.
We all identify or belong to a certain system or society. These are termed or manifested in present times as a clan, tribe, nation, language group, country, race, color or civilization. I would suggest that these systems are the bases and beginning of developing mindsets. Reason being that they all integrate culture, traditions, religions, education and networks. But as we grow and start develop our minds, we learn new experiences though learning from others experiences, traveling and connecting with other human beings.
What is YOUR Mindset?
Now that we have a better understanding of what a mindset is and how it is formed, it is necessary to understand YOUR Mindset. Your beliefs have become your thoughts. And the thoughts that you have mixed with emotion and feelings have manifested as your actions and habitual behaviors.
According to the Law of Cause and Effect, for every effect there is a cause. Your beliefs either cause you to progress/advance or limit you! Therefore, an analysis of your beliefs is inevitable: Self examination.
There are a number of ways to conduct a self examination. These range from SWOT analysis, surveys, brainstorming, observation or self analysis questions.
Below is a link to a Self analysis test questionnaire taken from ” Think and Grow Rich” on how to best examine yourself. Go through it and be honest with yourself. One day is recommended to go through all the questions and thoroughly answer them.
Once you have completed a self analysis of your beliefs and answered all these questions truthfully, you will know more about yourself than most people do.
Napoleon Hill instructs us to “Study the questions carefully, come back to them once each week for several months. You will be astounded at the amount of additional knowledge of great value to yourself, you will have gained by the simple method of answering the questions truthfully.
If you are not certain concerning the answers to some of the questions, seek the counsel of those who know you well, especially those who have no motive in flattering you, and see yourself through their eyes.
Although we all have identified factors that play a role in shaping our way of thinking, there are major mindsets that are most frequent. Below is an image taken from benefitmindset.com explaining 3 major mindsets .
It behooves you as an individual to observe and be conscious of which mindset you are operating from when certain words, thoughts or behaviors are manifested.
Whenever you feel yourself drifting towards a fixed mindset or a negative thought enters your mind, quickly correct yourself. You can do this by thinking something positive, using an affirmation that boosts your confidence, reading something inspiring or take long deep breaths
Learn how to develop a set of attitudes or beliefs that will enable you to have self control in all situations. A positive state of mind will empower you beyond your wildest imagination and protect you from negative thinking, critics, limiting beliefs and opinions of those who are trying to bring you down.
MINDSET IS KEY!!
